IMAP REleASE
IMAP REleASE uses real time electron data from the Interstellar Mapping and Acceleration Probe (IMAP) / High-energy Ion Telescope (HIT) to produce forecasts of the upcoming 28 – 50 MeV proton flux. The input data is provided through the I-ALiRT system (see e.g. https://imap-mission.com/ialirt/space-weather/particles).
In the future this system is to replace the current HESPERIA REleASE systems at L1, after SOHO and ACE have been switched off. This initial test version is a prototype subject to change as the electron data provided through I-ALiRT gets updated. For now the the available >1.2 MeV electron count rates are used scaled down as input into custom forecasting matrices based on SOHO/EPHIN data.
The upper panel shows the real-time 28.2 to 50.1 MeV proton flux measured by SOHO/EPHIN. The next three panels show the proton flux forecasts obtained with the initial IMAP REleASE forecasting scheme. From top to bottom the panels show expected proton fluxes produced from the 30, 60 and 90 minutes forecasting matrices. The bottom panel shows the measured real-time electron count rate which is scaled and than used for the forecasts. It is measured by IMAP / HIT currently for energies >1.2 MeV and provided through the I-ALiRT system.
